Getting a Bus

Getting a Bus

So, a friend (a local business owner) has to take the bus to and from work for one day as part of an employee awareness project. The use of the bus will ‘help him to experience how his employees feel’, and therefore in turn become a better boss. Sounds good so far, and assuming that his employees actually use the bus for work, it might help him to understand one of the many reasons why they feel different to him when arriving in the mornings.

Dutifully he stands and waits for the local Lynx to come and collect him. It is around eight in the morning and as usual his successful, car driving neighbors are opening up the ozone layer in a mixture of big, brash and bountiful rides in order to get to their particular empires.

No fewer than six, yes six, of his sub-division neighbors having seen him stood in a public line, on a public road, in a public place stop and ask him one question. The question was (everyone apparently, six from six), “Is everything okay?”. Not “Do you need a ride?”, not “I presume you are doing the employee awareness project?”, not “Decided to save the planet, huh?”, just “Is everything okay?”.

Having got home a little late that evening from work, he decides to tell the wife about the experience at the bus stop when she exits the kitchen and interrupts his thoughts. “Oh Darling” she says, “Sue came round earlier. She brought round a casserole, she said that Mike had called her earlier to say that he had seen you on the way to work and it looked like we were having a hard time, he said he didn’t have time to stop, but would catch up with you later in the week. Is everything okay?”

Stigma, d’ya think?

Most likely of similar ilk to those that think ‘Socialized Medicine’ has something to do with Communism!
